Warm and sunny start before rain and cooler air arrive late week | Sep. 29, 2026

Posted

TODAY

Some patchy fog may be around very early this morning, but it should burn away fairly quickly after sunrise. From there, expect plenty of sunshine and another pleasant afternoon with highs in the lower 80s. Winds stay very light, generally around 5 mph or less. It is another one of those days where there really is not much weather getting in the way.

TONIGHT

Mostly clear skies continue through the evening before a few clouds begin increasing late. Temperatures fall into the middle to upper 50s with light southeast winds around 5 mph. Rain is not expected.

TOMORROW

Wednesday brings a pretty noticeable warm-up. Expect a mixture of sunshine and some increasing clouds with highs reaching the middle 80s. South to southwest winds run around 5–10 mph. Despite the changing sky, the daytime hours should remain dry, giving us one more solid outdoor day before the pattern turns more unsettled.

TOMORROW NIGHT

Clouds become more widespread overnight as moisture starts increasing ahead of the next system. It will also be a much milder night with lows only falling into the middle to upper 60s. South winds remain around 5–10 mph. Most of the night should stay dry.

THURSDAY

Thursday is the transition day. Expect mostly cloudy skies with highs still reaching the middle 80s before showers begin developing during the afternoon off north. Southwest winds increase to around 10–15 mph with occasional gusts near 25 mph. It probably will not rain here in central Indiana, but by afternoon the radar becomes much more useful than it has been through the first half of the week.

THURSDAY NIGHT

Rain becomes much more widespread during the evening and overnight, with a few thunderstorms possible. Lows fall into the lower to middle 60s as winds gradually turn northerly around 5–10 mph. Some storms or heavier showers could produce locally heavy rainfall, and this currently looks like one of the wetter periods of the week. No organized severe-weather threat is apparent at this time.

FRIDAY

Friday is going to look and feel completely different. Periods of showers remain likely through at least part of the day with plenty of cloud cover and highs struggling to get much beyond the lower 70s. North winds run around 5–10 mph. So after temperatures in the middle 80s Wednesday and Thursday, Friday should provide a pretty abrupt reminder that October is arriving.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Showers remain possible during the evening before gradually becoming more scattered overnight. Expect mostly cloudy skies with lows falling into the middle to upper 50s. Northeast winds stay around 5–10 mph.

7 DAY OUTLOOK

Tuesday and Wednesday stay dry and increasingly warm, with highs climbing from the lower 80s Tuesday into the middle 80s Wednesday. Thursday begins the transition toward a wetter pattern, with shower and thunderstorm chances increasing during the afternoon and becoming more widespread Thursday night into Friday. Friday turns much cooler with highs only in the lower 70s, and occasional showers may linger into the weekend. Temperatures generally stay in the upper 60s to lower 70s Saturday and Sunday before quieter weather and chilly nights potentially settle in early next week.
