COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it has arrested two people after they allegedly called in false reports of explosives outside a business.
According to CSPD, around 9:30 a.m., officials received a report of a man handling suspected explosive items near Briargate Boulevard and Lexington Drive before entering a business. They say a second party called later about a suspicious man at the same intersection talking about explosives.
CSPD says that due to the perceived threat, the Regional Explosives Unit and Real Time Crime Center drone responded. A full sweep of the area using an explosives-detection K9 was conducted, and CSPD says no explosives, hazards or suspicious people were found.
According to officials, investigators tried to contact both reporting parties and were unable to contact them, but found a red light camera at the intersection. CSPD says the footage didn't show anyone matching the description of the person reported at the time of the accident.
Investigators say they determined the reports were false and detectives found a connection between the two callers, who they say had court-ordered treatment obligations, and a local business. CSPD says they learned the suspects lived in the Colorado Springs area and were connected to a specific vehicle.
CSPD says they used Axon Automatic License Plate Reader technology to search for the suspects using the specific license plate information. They say it provided a match and brought detectives to the 4200 block of North Nevada Avenue outside a motel.
46-year-old Kevin Holod and 45-year-old Tamara Beasley were then detained, interviewed, arrested and charged with false reporting of explosives which is a felony.
