Here’s your weekly events roundup for Sept. 28–Oct. 4 in Ballard.
This week brings book clubs, trivia, craft classes, and a busy Sunday, with a pet celebration at Ballard Commons Park and the first-ever Vintage & Secondhand Crawl all weekend.
Monday, Sept. 28
- Book Club – Wrecked Romantasy, Swoon City, 7–8:30 p.m.
- This month’s pick is Firebird by Juliette Cross. The club reads romantasy books that depart from some of the genre’s familiar conventions. RSVP to attend.
- How To Transform Your Life with Buddhist Meditation, Kadampa Meditation Center Washington, 7–8:30 p.m.
- Part of a series running through Nov. 9, this class explores Buddhist meditation. Admission is $12.
Tuesday, Sept. 29
- National Coffee Day at Mabel, Mabel Coffee, 8–11 a.m.
- Visitors can order a free coffee during the three-hour event, sponsored by a local real estate agent.
- Two Cities, One Industry: Big Tech, Power, and Politics in Seattle and San Francisco, National Nordic Museum, 6–8 p.m.
- A live taping of the Blue City Blues and GeekWire podcasts will examine how the tech industry has shaped the two cities. Tickets are $20.
- Music Bingo, Channel Marker Cider, 7–9 p.m.
- Match songs instead of numbers for a chance to win prizes. The weekly game is free.
Wednesday, Sept. 30
- Trivia, Channel Marker Cider, 7–9 p.m.
- Host Alex leads a free six-round game with wagers, prizes and a rotating food truck.
Thursday, Oct. 1
- Free First Thursday, National Nordic Museum, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
- General admission is free on the first Thursday of the month. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can reserve a ticket online. Special exhibitions cost $5 per person.
- Karaoke at Hattie’s Hat, Hattie’s Hat, 9:30–11 p.m.
- The weekly karaoke night takes place in Hattie’s back room.
Friday, Oct. 2
- Rainbow Bingo, Ballard NW Senior Center, 6–9 p.m.
- Sylvia O’Stayformore hosts an evening of bingo benefiting the senior center. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is $35.
- Ballard Vintage & Secondhand Crawl, participating Ballard shops and cafes, Oct. 2–4
- Pick up a passport at Thread Hunter or Simple & Just, then collect stamps at participating businesses. Completed passports will be entered into a prize drawing. The crawl includes nine secondhand shops and four bars and cafes; hours vary by business.
Saturday, Oct. 3
- Metal Stamping Class: Bookmarks, Swoon City, 10:30 a.m.–noon
- Design and stamp a personalized metal bookmark using letters and symbols. No experience is needed, and materials are provided. The class costs $60.
Sunday, Oct. 4
- Ballard Farmers Market, Ballard Ave NW, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. (recurring)
- The year-round Sunday market features produce from Washington farmers and other vendors along Ballard Avenue NW.
- Ballard Bookworms Storytime with Little Light Yoga, Greenwood Public Library, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
- Ballard Preschool Co-op’s free monthly story time will include children’s yoga led by Danielle Beiling of Little Light Yoga. It’s recommended for children ages 5 and under, with older siblings welcome.
- Piper’s Orchard Festival of Fruit, Carkeek Park, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
- The free annual festival includes apple harvesting, cider pressing, apple sampling, orchard tours, and other activities.
- Ballard Pet Celebration, Ballard Commons Park, noon–3 p.m.
- Meet local animal care groups and pet businesses. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will offer a short pet blessing at noon; attendees can bring a pet, a photo, or memories of a pet they have lost.
- Beginner Crochet Class, Swoon City, 2:30–4:30 p.m.
- Learn slip knots, foundation chains, and basic crochet stitches. A hook and yarn are included. The class costs $60.
- Bump in the Night: A Drag and Burlesque Cabaret, Obec Brewing, 7–9 p.m.
- The Halloween-season show features drag and burlesque performers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the event is for ages 21 and up. Tickets range from $20 to $75.
